This cute and handsome fellow
Really is a sight to see
With red-brown fur, long bushy tail
Elusive he can be
With tufts of fur upon his ears
He's most active at dusk and dawn
In search of food for his winter reserve
He may sometimes visit your lawn
His habitat's pine or larch and spruce woods
Where he leaps among branches up high
His drey he builds in converted nests
If disturbed a "chuck chuck" he will cry
A native to Britain but now overtaken
By grey - don't sit back resigned
To the fact the red squirrel is a threatened species
And seriously risking decline!
