The Nuthatch

The nuthatch he so agile be
As head first he descends the tree
With long and pointed beak he'll wedge
His seeds in tree bark's crack or ledge

His colourings really are distinct
With broad black stripe his eye is linked
To back of head, his coat blue-grey
Buff underparts he does display

His song is varied high and low
Notes up and down the scale do go
Alarmed he calls a loud "tuit, tuit"
In spring a rattling "pee, pee, pee"

The antics of this little bird
Are quite a joy to see
With jerky movements, speed and power
An acrobat he be
